José Luis Serzo is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice unfolds at the intersection of sculpture, drawing, installation, and visual narrative. His work is characterized by the creation of symbolic and fictional universes, populated by characters and stories that draw equally from literature and the fantastical, articulating a distinct language with a strong poetic charge that invites the viewer to enter broader and more meaningful narratives.
His work is a journey between the oneiric and the tangible, where reality and imagination merge through a surrealist lens that explores the limits of perception and emotion. Within this hybrid territory, curtains, masks, beauty, humor, and an intense dramatic charge are interwoven through light and shadow, constantly oscillating between the fantastical and the deeply human.
Through projects that function as open-ended narratives, Serzo investigates the relationship between reality and imagination, shaping a body of work in which the sculptural becomes a true vehicle for fiction and thought. Each piece forms part of a larger story, creating what he himself calls “story-exhibitions,” where his characters traverse dark paths in order to find themselves and undergo processes of inner transformation.
His work has been exhibited in numerous national and international museums and art centers, and has been recognized by critics for its contribution to contemporary figurative art, standing out for its ability to integrate multiple disciplines into a profound and evocative narrative discourse.
