Description
This extraordinary Batik textile from Indonesia features an intricate decoration in which figurative, botanical and geometric motifs are carefully distributed across the entire surface.
The composition is dominated by large fantastical birds, surrounded by flowers, leaves and small botanical elements. The central section introduces a succession of ornamental bands featuring diamonds, geometric forms and smaller birds, creating an intriguing contrast with the more organic decoration at either end.
The piece has been created using the traditional Batik technique, based on applying wax to selected areas of the fabric before dyeing. This resist-dyeing process makes it possible to create highly complex designs and produces the subtle irregularities that give each piece its distinctive handcrafted character.
The almost monochromatic combination of black and natural tones gives the textile remarkable graphic strength and allows the richness and precision of its motifs to stand out.
Traditionally, textiles of this kind could have served a ceremonial, decorative or clothing-related function, depending on their origin and composition. Today, it makes a magnificent piece of textile art, particularly striking when displayed on a wall, framed or incorporated into a contemporary interior alongside antiques and objects from different cultures.
A distinctive piece in which craftsmanship, tradition and design come together in a composition of extraordinary visual richness.
