Description
A traditional textile from the Naga communities of the mountainous regions between north-eastern India and Burma (present-day Myanmar), dating approximately from the 1970s.
Woven from cotton on a traditional loom, it features a composition of striking graphic simplicity: small square motifs in earthy tones are rhythmically arranged against a deep dark-blue ground and framed by vertical bands in natural white.
The simplicity of the geometry, the contrast of colours and the subtle irregularities inherent in handcrafted work give the piece a distinctly contemporary character despite its traditional origins.
A textile with remarkable decorative presence, ideal as a wall hanging, draped over a bed or displayed as a textile accent on a sofa.
