Description
This wig is a creation by the artist Rut Olabarri, whose work explores the boundaries between textile art, object, and body. The piece is made from natural-colored textile fibers, worked through braiding, twisting, and knotting to build a dense and enveloping structure.
The volume is organized in layers that evoke organic, almost architectural forms, where each braid contributes to a solid and dynamic whole. The hanging fringes and cords add movement and contrast against the compact upper part, creating a balance between weight and fluidity.
Its aesthetic references both ancestral textile traditions and a contemporary reinterpretation close to sculpture. It is not merely a wearable piece but an object that can also inhabit exhibition space, engaging in dialogue with the body, identity, and materiality.
Unique or produced in very limited editions, this wig represents Olabarri’s approach: craftsmanship, experimentation, and a strong material presence, making it a singular piece within contemporary textile art.
