Description
This attractive Kantha quilt from India stands out for its richness of colour, handcrafted character and, in particular, for offering two completely different designs within a single piece.
One side features an orderly composition of vertical bands against a green background, alternating small geometric motifs in yellow and black with zigzag lines and a multicoloured floral border. The reverse offers a different aesthetic, also set against a green background, decorated with small repeating motifs in shades of yellow, red and white and framed by reddish ornamental bands.
The piece is made following the traditional Kantha technique of the Indian subcontinent, in which layers of fabric are joined together with numerous lines of small running stitches. This stitching creates a lightly quilted surface and gives the textile its distinctive texture and movement.
Small irregularities, variations and signs of use form part of the charm of these textiles and reinforce their handcrafted character.
Thanks to its reversible design, the quilt allows the appearance of a space to be easily transformed. It can be used as a bedspread, draped over a sofa or even displayed as a large decorative textile on a wall.
A versatile piece full of colour, perfect for bringing texture, craftsmanship and personality to both contemporary and eclectic interiors.
