Description

At first glance, the scene feels simple: a pair of lilac boots with a modest heel, embroidered onto a worn floral background. There is no human figure, no setting. Just that paused gesture, almost incidental, as if the boots had been left there without the expectation of being looked at.

The background recalls domestic textiles, quilt fabrics, old upholstery, softly contrasting with the more defined drawing of the boots. The choice feels deliberate: ornament and function coexist without hierarchy, much like in lived-in interiors where objects accumulate through use rather than decorative intent.

The stitching remains visible. It does not aim for perfection or symmetry, and in that decision the time of manual work becomes evident: cutting, layering, adjusting, sewing again. The embroidery works almost like a relief drawing, giving visual weight to an everyday motif that, outside this context, might go unnoticed.

In Pili Iglesias’ work, textile becomes a quiet archive. There is no overt nostalgia, but there is a steady attention to the domestic, to what is handled and worn over time. This piece does not tell a closed story; it offers a pause. A scene that could belong to many homes—or to none in particular.

Displayed on its own or alongside other works, it maintains a discreet presence. It does not demand attention, but it does not fade either. It simply exists, much like those objects one remembers having seen for years without quite recalling when they first appeared.
