Description
This sculptural head presents a female face with simplified features: firmly drawn eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes and red lips that recall the graphic language of mid-20th-century mannequins and decorative figures. The surface is hand-painted using a simple yet striking palette—flesh tones for the face, black for the hair and green for the base.
The piece is hollow, with an opening at the back, suggesting a papier-mâché construction. This technique was widely used in decorative objects, shop mannequins and workshop-made figures during the mid-20th century, allowing the creation of lightweight yet durable volumes.
The painted treatment is deliberately simple. Visible brush lines and the slight irregularity of the finish reinforce its handcrafted and expressive character, closer to an artistic or theatrical object than to a naturalistic representation.
The cylindrical base, decorated with a small painted motif, provides stability and turns the piece into an autonomous sculptural object, ideal as a decorative element for a shelf, display cabinet or collection of curiosities. Its presence combines popular craft and artistic expression, evoking both studio mannequins and naïve sculpture or stage props.
