In this work, Iñigo Unzueta reinterprets the figure of Captain Haddock, translating the character into a much freer and more gestural pictorial language.
The character’s face occupies almost the entire composition: his defiant gaze, black beard and characteristic sailor’s cap retain his instantly recognisable identity, while being transformed through spontaneous brushwork, irregular surfaces and deliberately visible layers of paint.
Intense shades of blue dominate the work, contrasting with blacks, whites and small accents of yellow to create an image of striking graphic presence. Imperfections, overlapping layers and contrasting textures form an integral part of the construction of the piece, reinforcing its handcrafted character.
An expressive, irreverent work full of personality, in which Iñigo Unzueta takes an icon of popular culture and brings it into his own artistic universe.
