Description
This original 1940s decorative fabric features an elaborate print inspired by an antique library, with successive rows of books creating the visual illusion of shelves filled with volumes.
Books bound in red, green and black alternate with papers, documents and small decorative objects, creating a composition rich in detail. The dark background enhances the depth of the design, while the warm tones of the book spines and shelves give the piece an enveloping aesthetic with a distinctly vintage character.
The design plays with the effect of trompe-l’œil, transforming a flat textile surface into an imaginary library. Far from appearing uniform, the repeated motif creates an intriguing visual rhythm through the variety of books, their different positions and the small objects depicted throughout.
Dating from the 1940s, the fabric retains all the charm and personality characteristic of mid-20th-century decorative textiles.
Thanks to its size and strong graphic presence, it is particularly striking when displayed as a wall hanging, although it could also be incorporated into interior design projects or used to cover a folding screen, headboard or other decorative piece.
An original vintage textile full of character, perfect for bringing colour, texture and an unexpected intellectual touch to an interior.
